Far smaller than expected, just an fyi, but the real issue that i have is the angle of the inside of the puller. If you look at a proper fret puller(from other companies), the angle is far shallower, this one however is way too steep. Meaning it will have a signifigantly harder time getting under and grabbing the fret, plus utilizing too much leverage which often results in fretboard tear-up.
This one works, it will do the job if you're on a budget, but I strongly recommend a change in design. Also it'd be cool if it was bigger lol Hope this helps
A little smaller than expected and does require a strong grip, but I had no trouble at all replacing the frets in my acoustic guitar. The jaws are good and sharp and the price is very good for a fret puller of this quality. I highly recommend it!
The Elmer Guitar fret puller is very small and light weight. In my opinion, more substance is needed for fret pullers to be effective. I realize that StewMac sells the heavier fret pullers and also ones that are similar to Elmer Guitar for considerably more money. In the future, I will order the larger pullers from StewMac.
As a small time luthier, I’m good with the purchase, I see a couple of reviews that didn’t quite like the kit, but I honestly think they’re pretty good, I had absolutely no problem getting my frets off, if you do it the right way, here’s some food for thought, I first used a Hot water damp rag and soldering iron to steam heat up the frets this helps to lightly soften up the rosewood or maple board and any glue or dirt that has built up between the tang and wood, I then carefully and slowly pull up the fret (just enough for the supplied protection plate to fit between the wood and fret) then very slowly rock the pliers back and forth while pushing the plate through and under the fret, I then air dry the wood on the (COLD NOT HOT) setting on the wife’s hairdryer and your now ready for the new fret set replacements.
Elmer guitar has Some Great Luthier Tools at a Very Good Price and are Friendly and Reasonable to do Business With 👍 They deserve their 5 Stars in my Opinion 👍
